Assistant Instructor Course
The Assistant instructor course is designed for students to gain practical teaching experience with an active instructor.
Students will help an instructor teach an Open Water Scuba Diver course, Advanced Diver Course, and Rescue Diver Course.
Upon completion of the course graduates may teach and certify Skin Divers, conduct the In-active diver program, and conduct the knowledge Quest review in the Open Water Diver Course.
Prerequisites:
The Student must:
1. Be at least eighteen (18) years old.
2. Be a certified Divemaster.
3. Hold a current CPR and First Aid certification (i.e. a valid and current
CPROX Certification).
4. Have a current medical examination for diving.
5. Have a minimum of forty (40) logged dives.
6. Possess the minimum instructional equipment, as defined in leadership
course standards.

What's involved:
The student must perform one presentation
in each of the courses assisted under the direct supervision of an active
instructor.
Instructors are required to evaluate all the following skills:
1. The candidate’s
ability to:
A. Assist in all required courses.
B. Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and
execution.
2. Scuba surface bail-out:
A. With full gear in hand and cylinder turned off, descend to approximately
two point five
(2.5) meters / eight (8) feet
B. Turn cylinder on, replace mask, snorkel, and scuba unit
C. With equipment on and mask cleared ascend slowly
3. Swim four hundred
(400) meters on the surface non-stop any stroke, without the use of swimming
aids in less than 10 minutes
4. Swim eight hundred (800) meters with mask, snorkel
and fins non-stop without the use of arms in
less than 17 minutes
5. Have a total of sixty (60) verifiable open water logged
dives, at time of certification
6. Bring a diver, simulating unconsciousness, up from
depth (not greater than 6 meters / 20 feet). At
the surface swim them under your own power 100 meters in less than 4 minutes
7. Demonstrate all open water diver skills to instructor
quality
