Computer Diver
Most new divers learn to dive using some form of the US Navy dive tables and modified by their agency.
While these dive tables allow safe diving, they can be very restrictive on bottom time and not allow the diver the time to enjoy their favorite dive sites.
Computer diving improves by allowing multi-level diving to extend basic bottom timing by tracking the divers actual dive profile every second of the dive time.
The result is a safer dive, since the actual dive is accurately tracked as the diver dives it. A more precise No Decompression Limit can be determined that is usually significantly longer than allowed by a table.
This course teaches best practices for using a dive computer for diving.
Prerequisites: Open
Water or Junior Open
Water Certifications. Must be a minimum age of eighteen (18) or minimum
age of ten (10) with parental consent. Must own your own dive computer.
Cost: $75
If you purchase your dive computer from Capital
Scuba, this class is free*!
What's involved:
2 dives, up to a 4 hour academic session but may be done at water's edge.
Students are required to successfully
complete the following:
1. Open Water – Dive
one (1)
A. This dive must be conducted to a specified depth that is appropriate
to the dive site.
B. Instructor and student must prepare a suitable multi-level profile
for this dive.
C. It is important for the diver to monitor depth, buoyancy control, and
air supply. For
example, if the dive is projected for twenty one (21) msw / seventy (70)
fsw maximum
depth; the diver must then monitor his depth and NOT EXCEED the planned
maximum
depth.
D. An appropriate safety stop must be included at the end of the dive.
2. Open Water – Dive
two (2)
A. The second dive must be conducted in the same fashion as Open Water
Dive one (1) with
the exception that the dive profile is prepared by the student and submitted
to the
instructor for approval.
B. Again, monitor depth, buoyancy control, and air supply.
3. Post Dives
A. After completing the two (2) dives the students must download their
computers if they
have the capability.
B. Instructors must review this information with the students.
