DiveMaster
The Divemaster course is the first level in the Professional Diving Ranks.
It is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for an individual to lead certified divers in the open water environment.
Upon completion, graduates may assist instructors during diving courses and supervise and conduct dives for certified divers.
This course trains candidates to have leadership level knowledge and skill.
Prerequisites: The
Student must:
1. Be at least eighteen
(18) years old, unless otherwise stated.
2. Be certified as Advanced
Diver (advanced certification must include, Deep,
Navigation, and Night
& Limited visibility specialties).
3. Be certified as Rescue
Diver.
4. Hold a current CPR and First Aid certification (i.e.
a valid and current CPR1st Certification).
5. Have a current medical examination for diving.
6. Have a minimum of forty (40) logged dives.

What's involved:
Confined Water Requirements:
1. Skin Diving Skills – Minimum equipment:
Mask, Fins, Snorkel and additional equipment as required.
A. Swim eight hundred (800) meters with mask, snorkel and fins non-stop
without the use
of arms in less than 17 minutes.
B. Swim four hundred (400) meters on the surface non-stop any stroke,
without the use of
swimming aids in less than 10 minutes (swim goggles permitted.)
C. Scuba surface bail-out:
I. With full gear in hand and cylinder turned off, descend to approximately
two
point five (2.5) meters / eight (8) feet
II. Turn cylinder on, replace mask, snorkel, and scuba unit
III. With equipment on and mask cleared ascend slowly
2. Scuba Skills - minimum
equipment: all equipment required for a SDI diving leader.
A. In water, transport another diver in full gear at a quick pace for
four (4) minutes
B. Demonstrate a complete rescue scenario satisfactorily
C. Underwater skills with and without a mask
D. Surface snorkel swimming in full scuba equipment 100 meters
3. Bring a diver,
simulating unconsciousness, up from depth (not greater than 6 meters /
20 feet). At
the surface swim them under your own power 100 meters in less than 4 minutes
4. confined water skills:
A. preparation and planning
B. briefing and debriefing
C. group control
D. problem recognition and solving
E. diving equipment assembly and disassembly
F. equipment inspection
G. entries
H. exits
I. proper weighting and buoyancy control
J. snorkel regulator clearing

Open Water Requirements:
1. Ten (10) open water dives lasting longer than twenty (20) minutes each.
2. Training dives must not exceed forty (40) meter / one hundred thirty
(130) feet
