Scuba Diving International: SDI

Future Buddies

A brand new, innovated course designed to provide children between the ages of 8 & 9 an introduction to scuba diving in a controlled environment under the direct supervision of an instructor.

Children are given the opportunity to try breathing underwater in confined water setting (pool).

The instructor covers topics such as the history of diving, diving equipment and the marine environment. Class size is limited to a maximum of 4 students per instructor.

Prerequisites: Minimum age of 8, must demonstrate comfort and adequate swimming skills.

Cost: $50 Primary session, each subsequent session $35. You may schedule as many sessions as you'd like.

What's involved:

Primary Session:
The required skills should be performed in Confined Water (a pool) with a maximum depth of six (6) msw / twenty (20) fsw.

1. Weight system adjustment with proper weighting.
2. Pre-dive check of self and buddy.
3. Mask clearing (partial).
4. Buoyancy Control Devise (BCD) use
A. Inflation using low pressure inflator and deflation, at the surface.
5. Buoyancy Control
A. Controlled ascents and descents.
6. Regulator use.
7. Underwater swimming (proper use of fins).
8. Use of gauges.
9. Underwater Communications.

Subsequent Sessions:
Used to hone skills, keep current, develop new underwater skills such as using a camera, a compass, lift bags, etc.

In order to complete this course, students must:

1. Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.
2. Satisfactorily complete primary session skills.
